Many of the protein powders out there use artificial sweeteners, like aspartame,Acesulfame potassium (ace-K) (these are also a aspartame product), or sucralose, which seems to be the favorite. In some cases you will see three of these used together. There is much data on the dangers of Aspartame and Aspartame has had the most complaints of any food additive available to the public. When sucralose came along it was thought to be better and safer, but research has shown that it kills 50% of friendly bacteria in our intestines. Your intestines are a second immune system, the more friendly bacteria you have, the healthier you are. Sucralose accumulates little by little in your body and some of the side affects include skin rashes/flushing, panic-like agitation, dizziness and numbness, diarrhea, swelling, muscle aches, headaches, intestinal cramping, bladder issues, and stomach pain. We use cellulose free fiber. In order for the body to break cellulose down, you need to have the enzyme cellulase, but unfortunately, the body does not make it. Unless you are taking a cellulase enzyme with it, it creates a waxy build up on the intestinal wall and inhibits absorption. We are using inulin that is also a pre-biotic, so it is virtually fertilizer to you friendly bacteria, so if you have been using a sucralose product this will help rebuild your friendly bacteria. We are also using glucomanna as a fiber. Because of the way it expands it helps you to feel full so you eat less. Glucomanna is great for improving digestion and helping with elimination. Because glucomanna delays the emptying of stomach contents, this allows for a more gradual absorption of dietary sugar, and can reduce blood sugar levels.
