I have always had a honda, but a year ago i got a yamaha grizzly. I have been way impressed with how smooth it is, and how much more power it has. The only down side about the bike is how heavey it is. When i get stuck i cant man handle it like i used to do with my rancher. But i probably will never own anything else after riding it.

I always had hondas and had great luck with them, I also bought a grizzly 660 but it wa before fuel injection and I hated it. The damn thing would never run like the hondas and the altitude changes were killer on it ability to run well. I also didn't care for the weight and the ride height. I ended up selling it and then bought my new rancher with the fuel injection. It doesn't have the power for sure like the 660 but at least it runs. Now my buddies both have 700 grizzlies with the fuel injection and they run awesome but the weight and the height are still a factor. My low slung rancher is far more stable as well it just needs a tad bit more power with loads ---------- www.bearpawartworks.com

the grizzly's are great hunting bikes, but like you said Tadd they're heavy and suck when you get stuck. When the snow is still fairly hard on top I prefer my rancher because I float right across the top of the snow. Any other time of year i prefer to be on the grizzly.

Not sure what you guys are talking about, but the honda rancher and the yamaha grizzly are almost exactly equal in weight. My grizzly 660 is 600 lbs dry, and the rancher ES is 605 wet. So the weight is negligable. If you think the grizzly is heavy you should sling your leg over the new polaris. My buddy has a 09 850 xp sportsman and that thing is like a tank! Its almost 780 lbs!!!!!!!!!! May as well just take the 4runner, then at least you'd have a heater in the morning. HAHAHA
GRIZZLY 4 LIFE!

My Rancher doesn't even weigh 500 pounds. I have one of the older models and it doesn't hardly weigh anything

You were close. They weighed 511 lbs dry back in 2001, and that was for the 350. So the grizzly has twice the power, for only 89 lbs. Not a bad trade IMO.
Just sayin' You don't know what heavy is until you try to manhandle the 800 or 850 sportsman around on the trailer/snow/mud!! The Grizzly feels light as a feather compared to these brutes! ---------- ))--SLIVER-->

I know a lot of people are Honda lover because of their reliability, but I've put over 7000 miles on a 2006 Sportsman 500 with no problems to speak of. Keep it serviced and it will go a long time. It may be heavy, but if I want to ride on top of the snow I take my snowmobile. It handles better, rides smoother, and has more power than anything Honda builds right now. The locked front diff., clearance, and power make the Sportsman a goin' machine when the trail gets tough. The Sportsman 800or850, Grizzly 700, Bruteforce 750, CanAm 650/800 would all be even better performers due to their increased power and similar clearance and diff lock. Honda needs to catch up to the competition, or get out of the game.

I'm with djd on this one, the polaris is hard to beat. I've rode all the quads out there & while pretty much every manufacturer makes a decent bike I gotta say the ride on a sportsman is far superior in my opinion. I own a 2004 sportsman 500 limited edition, 7200 miles on it I've never had any problems with it other than a few u-joints & boots. All rough mountain miles too. I think the 500 HO has more than enough power along with shaving some weight vs. the bigger motors and with decent fuel economy. I think the biggest thing is regular grease & oil changes & ONLY use Amsoil 0w40 engine oil. My motor still runs like it did the day I bought it. Gonna buy another sportsman IF mine ever wears out. The only thing I added that improved it was more aggressive tires due to bad shoulders.

My opinion is Honda all the way. The new rancher 420 at has awesome power for a 420 backed by Honda true reliability. Polaris do habe a better ride no doubt, but feel one rolled on top of ya cause of its size is a killer. My inclement owned one and if you didn't run it Much in the winter we had to pull start the damn thing everytime. The Honda has the best auto transmission by far twill never heat up under slow high load conditions. I watched a kawasaki brute force fry it tyranny rock crawling I was on the Honda rubicon and it never gave me an ounce of trouble like the brute force did. I had over nineteen thousand miles on my Honda foreman 450 and all I replaced was brakes and the front end fourteen drive bearings. Honda are proven die hard sobs.
