Two days before the archery hunt started I was notified that my name came up as an alternate for the San Jaun Elk Ridge archery deer tag. I couldn't pass it up. With insufficeint time to scout it made opening weekend very tough. I spent a lot of time just getting to know the area and seeing a lot of small bucks. Anyway, I'm headed back down this weekend and was wondering if anyone would be willing to share some info that might point me in the direction of a big one.
Thanks

Well, I've heard a lot of good things about this unit, and heard of some monsters down there. I'm hopin' for 180+ if that's reasonable. I saw a lot of young stuff but only saw 1 mature buck,a heavy 4,almost shot him but he was only 20 or so wide.

There are a lot of nice bucks but they are starting to get a little weary of people now. There are two on deadman that will go 180+ just got to catch them when they out. Two on round mountain 175-185 depends on which one you see. There is a non-typical around gooseberry but he has been hard to catch up with. Don't know where you been but maybe this is a couple places to start.
Good Luck
